Tripoli: Prime Minister of Libya's Government of National Unity Abdul Hamid Al Dabaiba announced on Thursday that his government will continue to perform its work normally with international recognition until preparing a constitutional base for the coming elections and the formation of an elected authority.
Addressing a cabinet meeting, Dabaiba called on the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Head of the High Council of State to issue a constitutional rule that leads to elections.
He said that Head of the High National Elections Commission Imad Al Sayeh had on more than one occasion attributed the procrastinated elections to the continued appeals, adding that the commission requested to be provided with an electoral law as a base for its work.
Dabaiba stressed that he will not allow tampering with the security of the capital city and harming civilians, noting that his government works without any divisions.
He also blasted the recurrent disagreements that disrupt his government's mission as politically-oriented and seeking to disrupt services provided for citizens.
Elections were scheduled to be held on December 24, 2021, but they were postponed to a later date.
