The 7th AFC Medical Conference in Qatar, which had been postponed because of COVID-19, has been rescheduled from March 2 to 6, 2023, with the theme “Football and Sports Medicine - Celebrating Diversity”.More than 100 renowned sports medical and scientific experts from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), FIFA, UEFA, and Aspetar will speak at the conference.
This top-notch faculty will offer their expertise on over 150 medical topics, including AFC Medical Committee Chairperson Dato’ Dr. Gurcharan Singh, an experienced sports medicine physician and expert in anti-doping programmes. Over 115 speakers will discuss various topics for the five-day conference.
There will also be two pre-conference activities and one cadaver workshop including Sports Physiotherapy Course, Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Guided Injection Workshop, and Cadaver Workshop (knee, foot and ankle, shoulder).
The conference Planning Committee has invited speakers and presenters to participate in the scientific programme through the submission of abstracts or the free paper sessions. Interested professionals and students who want to register may visit the afcmedical-conference.org.
Among the topics that will be discussed are: Fitness and Training: What is New?; Women’s Football, Hamstring Injuries; rehabilitation after sport-related concussion: a holistic approach; an integrated approach in managing the elite football player; groin injuries; the young footballer; applied science/fitness and conditioning; nutrition and supplements; clinical approach to ACL injuries in football; dental health in football; and MSK/traumatology.
Other topics are: Injuries in elite players – UCL; use and abuse of biological in MSK injuries; gender eligibility in football; cartilage injuries; anti-doping; cardiac screening and cardiac arrest on the pitch; ankle and football injuries; playing in extreme environment; organisation of major sports event during COVID-19; COVID-10 and return to play decision; injury and illness surveillance in Asia; upper extremities injuries in goalkeepers; research in football: Quo vadis.
Performance development of elite football players; update in imaging of football injuries; travelling with a football team; protecting the player’s mental health; and harassment in sports are also among the topics at the conference.
